Restoration work on Monserrate Palace’s roofs and its Copa dos Frescos is underway in Sintra, with a budget of around €3 million and a completion target of early 2027. Monserrate, like the Colégio de São Fiel, is classified as a Property of Public Interest — one of Portugal’s formal heritage protection categories.
Project leaders have described the effort as ‘engineering for conservation,’ focused on stabilizing the roof structure, preserving exterior walls, and protecting the building’s decorative details, according to reporting from Lusa.

The Colégio de São Fiel restoration, supported by a favourable opinion from the Câmara Municipal de Castelo Branco, faces many of the same technical and funding questions — how to stabilize a historic structure responsibly while keeping it useful for the community around it.
