The Church of Nossa Senhora das Salas, in Sines, is reopening to the public this month after a €450,000 restoration funded through Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). Classified as a National Monument, the church is linked to the explorer Vasco da Gama — born in Sines — and its restoration was timed to the 500th anniversary of his death.
The project included a €200,000 construction contract and addressed structural and decorative elements of the historic building, according to reporting by The Portugal News.
