The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has selected 28 projects to receive funding for immigrant integration work, chosen from 286 applications submitted by 73 municipalities across Portugal. Sixteen of the selected projects are based in Greater Lisbon and the West, six in the North, three in the Alentejo, two in the Centre, and one in the Algarve, according to The Portugal News.
The funded initiatives cover a wide range of needs: Portuguese language and culture classes, job market integration, healthcare access, housing support, legal assistance, and intercultural mediation. Several projects specifically include multilingual digital platforms and mobile service units designed to reach people in rural and agricultural areas — exactly the kind of digital-access gap our own Digital Inclusion work is meant to address.
At TLG Foundation, we’re developing a digital platform to support language learning, civic integration, and employability for immigrant communities in Portugal. Seeing this level of coordinated investment across dozens of municipalities is a strong signal that digital inclusion is being recognised as core integration infrastructure, not an afterthought.
